Oh, wait, criminal charges may be filed against BP, but the crooks and liars from Wall Street are just fine. Is it me or do you see the supreme hypocrisy around this whole situation? BP is doing everything under the sun to correct its wrong, I know, it is not enough, but nevertheless they are paying people who lost their livelihood, paying for the cleanup and doing everything in their power to stop the flow of crude from the well and they may face civil and criminal charges. However, the banks, ratings agencies and other related crooks who bilked trillions in bailouts from governments, i.e. the taxpayer, that is you and I, on fraudulent loans and bonds are getting bonuses.
What is going on? What is the difference between BP and Goldman Sachs? Well, for one thing it is the money. Wall Street, collectively, gave Obama $23M in campaign contributions in 2008, the most out of any candidate running in the series that year. Compare that towards the oil and gas industry and it really just does not compare at all, Wall Street has the cash and if you think that has nothing to do with it you are naïve or blind to the hard facts of life. I am not saying BP, which as of yesterday I am a shareholder of, did nothing wrong, but they hardly blew up the financial system and drove millions out of jobs, their homes, blew up retirement plans and the list goes on, but Wall Street did all of that.
Where are the kangaroo trials for Wall Street? Where is that change I can believe in? I do not see it. I see the green lobby getting their kangaroo trials, but not the American people who lost trillions. We got Bernie Madoff which is not exactly a shining example of government efficiency as a whistle blower tried to turn him in 10 years ago, but other than that we got nothing other than an exploding deficit. The bankers got their bonuses last year, actually, if you think about it, they got their bonuses in 2008 as well and were really not impacted at all by the financial crisis in the least. Sure, some lost their jobs, lower level people, but not the main players who made it happen and they are still making millions a year.
The ratings agencies are still doing what they always do, rating paper on fantasyland assumptions which are far from reality and there is zero reform going on there. Goldman is going whatever Goldman does, perfect trading days for all of 2010, how does that happen? Citi is getting right back into the game of packaging and selling CLO’s again, more garbage to go into your mutual fund, how exciting! Yet, Chuck Prince still has his millions, John Mack still has his millions, all the executives at Lehman are still wealthy, same at Bear Sterns, but what about their bond holders and shareholders? What about Repo 105?
Give us 1 freaking show trial! Instead we are getting BP under investigation, great. I am sure the granola kids will love that show trial, but for those of us who actually pay taxes, work and actually show up to vote, well, we are mad and want some Wall Street heads on a platter still. Preferably Lloyd’s, but I will take John Mack’s just the same, I am not picky.
I am an honest to God political neutral as I voted for Bush in 2000 and Kerry in 2004 which makes me probably one of the worst voters in the history of the world, but I voted my conscience and for what I believed was right. As it turned out, they are all crooks and the one thing I learned is we need balance in government, no matter who occupies the Whitehouse. When that balance is out of whack, like we saw when the Republicans had absolute rule and like we see now with Democrats with absolute rule things get ugly, real fast.
Most of all, corruption runs amuck and there is no accountability to anyone. Just look at Senator Dodd, he was guilty as sin and my 5 year old could tell he knew he was getting favors on his mortgages from Countrywide, but not the ethics committee who let him off Scott Free. Now we see the same thing with Representative Rangel who is clearly guilty as sin as well, yet he is still the chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, possibly the most powerful committee in all of Washington and the committee that writes tax laws.
Just so you are keeping score at home, we have Timmy Geithner who is Treasury Secretary who “forgot” to pay his taxes, Sen. Dodd who gets sweetheart mortgage deals, campaign contributions from AIG (then let’s them keep their bonuses which he included in the stimulus bill), takes money from Fannie and Freddie while leaving them largely unregulated and so on only to collapse later on. Now we have Rep. Rangel who has spent eons in Congress only to make a small fortune for himself including property in Dominican Republic and some fancy apartment dealings in NYC.
Either these people are the dumbest people in the world, which should scare you because they are leading our country, or they are simply lying to you (more than likely the case) which means they should resign for the good of the public, which would never happen. Either way, how could these people get reelected? What is wrong with people? If this “happened” to you or I and we used the same lame excuse as I forgot or whatever we would be bed mates with Bubba in a heat beat, but not these guys. Nope, there is definitely a two tiered system in place because not only are these guys not in prison, but they still have jobs.
Not only that, but when a vote comes to the floor to remove Rep. Rangel as Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee while the investigation is completed the Jackasses, I mean, the Democrats knock defeat the vote. So much for transparency in politics and fighting for the American people and all that other BS Obama fed us during the campaign. We sure as hell know that Pelosi doesn’t care about us, she is trying to impose a VAT, value added tax, to pay for health care, yeah, ever been to Europe? VAT’s are horrible regressive taxes that stifle growth and punish everyone, especially the poor, equally. You don’t even need to go to Europe to see it in action, just go to Canada.
Anyhow, this is just unbelievable to think that these crooks are able to stay in their jobs as if nothing is wrong when they are under investigation. It’s like someone being accused of murder being released by a judge and allowed to have his gun back because it is the only fair thing to do as the investigation is not complete yet, even though the ballistics test already matched. We know their all guilty, but if you are part of the political class, no problem. Enough is enough already, vote them out and for the love of God let’s get some balance back into government (any party will do!).
A very powerful video from Karl Denninger, please watch and pass it on. It echoes my sentiment to the letter. If we are not outraged we are not patriots and my ancestors, who fought in the Revolutionary War, are turning over in their graves if they could see what they died for. It is time to do something about the system and there are three steps you should follow.
1. The most critical step! Stop supporting the corporations by shopping less and using locally owned stores. Most importantly use cash, real green cash not a debit or credit card. If you cannot afford something then you should not be buying it so don’t care it. If you charge it you are supporting s system designed to rip you off.
2. Vote against every incumbent running for office, they are all corrupt. Write your representatives to tell them your displeasure in their actions, calling works better because they do not read their emails.
3. Get out of debt. If you owe nothing then no one has leverage against you.
Haven’t you had enough? I am tired of hearing that this is how things work, it is not and should not be. If more people wakeup to the fact that the system is setup against the people, which is ironic since the system only works because of the people, only then can we get real change, change we can really believe in and make happen.
However, I guess all of us Americans have lost our stomachs for fighting for what is right. Am I right? Prove me wrong and stop this runaway government and break the control of the banking system. Enough is enough and while I advocate peaceful dissent it is important to realize that raising your voice is peaceful dissent. We need to raise our voices so they can be heard over the special interest groups or the corporations who line the pockets of our representatives so scream if you have to. People, this is our country I am talking about, our freedom is at stake, our way of life is at stake, your kids future is now leveraged far beyond what Lehman was leveraged at and how could you look them in the eye and tell them that you did everything within your power to make things happen when you probably didn’t lift a finger to change anything.
It is far more easy to sit back in a comfortable chair reading this than to actually go out and voice your dissent in public. However, if you do nothing, not one thing, to try and change the status quo then you do not have the right to complain about anything. People, your freedom is not a right, it is a privilege that can and will be taken away if you continue to do nothing. Yes, you will be branded a racist for disagreeing with the president, but no one said dissent was easy and you must ignore what Chris Mathews thinks or Keith Olberman. Those clowns can only say what they say because people like my relatives got off their asses and put some skin, and blood, into the game. They died so you can be free, how are you going to repay them? The choice is yours.
Below is a list of campaign contributions that the GSE’s made as of September 2008. So, now do you know why Dodd and Frank liked the GSE’s so much? Are you really going to trust these people, who take from the very people we bailout, to run health care? Have you noticed that insurers are loving the new government plan so far, makes you wonder how they will cash in on it, doesn’t it?
It is time to vote out incumbents as they have a vested interest in corporate America instead of Americans. All Recipients of Fannie Mae and Freddie MacCampaign Contributions, 1989-2008
